Tonight I dressed up (cosplayed?) as (now Senator) John Kerry from the Vietnam War era for a friend’s themed birthday party. The theme was “Election 2012” or you could come as your favourite symbol of American cultural imperialism. I chose Election 2004.
The Purple Heart medals are backed with velcro so that I can tear them off and fling them across the room. The shirt was $3, the ribbons were probably the most expensive and time intensive at about $3 each (I made six) and they took a sizeable part of the afternoon for Weiss and I to sew. Iron on letters were $2 each and I already owned the pants. I should have invested in a prosthetic chin.
All in all I think this was quite a successful attempt for my first time attempting to construct parts of a costume rather than just buying an outfit (e.g. a 90s party was a loud tracksuit jacket, jeans and boofy hair).
